3: Installation and Set-up
3.6.5 Setting up the programmable power outlets
The two programmable power outlets located on the
UPS back panel can be programmed to turn ON or OFF
under certain circumstances. This feature is typically
used to turn off any non-critical loads connected to these
outlets when the UPS is operating on battery power, and
so increase the battery autonomy time. A green LED
illuminates on the UPS control panel to indicate when the
outlets are live.
Each of the two outlets can be set-up individually through
the Programmable Outlook Scheme window
illustrated in Figure 3.10.
This window has two areas; the top, Programmable
Outlet Settings area, allows rules to be applied to
determine when the programmable outlets are turned ON
and OFF. The lower area allows provides a means of
manually controlling the outlets’ ON/OFF status when the
UPS is operating.
Note: There is no other means of applying these settings
other than through the UPS Setting Tool software.
The available programmable outlet settings are:
Turn Outlet On, After UPS On –
This option sets a delay between the UPS being turned ON and the enabling of the programmable
outlet. The set time can be between 0-3600 seconds, and when set to 0 seconds the outlet is enabled
immediately after the UPS is turned ON.
Outlet Turn Off, After AC Failure –
This option sets the time that the programmable outlet remains turned ON following a UPS input
mains supply failure. If only non-critical loads are connected to the programmable outlet, this allows
them to be shed following an input supply failure in order to achieve a longer back-up time for the
critical loads that connected to the standard UPS outlets. The set time can be between 0-3600
seconds, and when set to 0 seconds the outlet is disabled immediately following a supply failure.
Outlet Turn On, After AC Recovery –
This option sets a time delay before the programmable outlet turns ON following the recovery of the
UPS input mains supply from an outage. The set time can be between 0-3600 seconds, and when set
to 0 seconds the outlet is enabled immediately after the input supply is restored.
Outlet Turn Off, When Battery Low –
When the UPS is operating on battery power, this option is used to set the point at which the
programmable outlet is switched OFF during the battery discharge. Once again this is to prolong the
available battery autonomy time by shedding less critical loads. The level of operation can be set to
20%-80% of remaining charge.
Outlet Turn Off When UPS Overload
This option is used to determine if the programmable outlet is turned OFF during overload conditions.
Key Point: If you set the programmable outlet to turn OFF after an input supply failure, the
outlet will not turn back on again when the supply is restored unless you tick the ‘Outlet
Turn On, After Recovery’ check box.
